Space U Brew 2/26: Men's Basketball Making History

The men's basketball team beat its third ranked opponent in a single season.

Good morning. It’s National Set a Good Example Day, and that’s exactly what we’ve got in this Brew. The Knights dominated in so many sports this past weekend, setting a great example for the athletics program.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Making History. The men’s basketball team beat No. 23 Texas Tech 75-61. This is the first time in program history that the team has had three wins over a ranked opponent in a single season. The Knights went on a 20-3 run to take the lead. Darius Johnson led the team with 15 points, and Jaylin Sellers was right behind with 15.

🔼 Series Dub. The baseball team faced Samford this past weekend and beat them 18-3, 9-6 and 12-2. All nine starters recorded a hit in game one, and seven of the nine drove in runs. Andrew Brait had a home run and went 3-5. Garrett Staton had a three-run and two-run homer in game two. Andrew Estrella finished game two and three with a grand slam. Andrew Sundean went 3-4 with four RBIs.

🔼 Split Weekend. The softball team competed in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic this past weekend and beat Oregon State 7-2 and San Diego 4-3. Chloe Evans hit her third home run of the season in the Oregon State game. The team had eight hits and three RBIs against San Diego to win the game. The Pirates were unable to beat No. 8 Missouri, 1-5, and No. 5 Tennessee, 0-3.

🔼 Eight is Great. The men’s tennis team won its eighth event of the season after beating UAB 5-2. The Knights won two doubles matches and four singles matches.

🔼 Double-Header Dub. The women’s tennis team swept its double header Sunday with wins over North Florida, 4-0, and Bethune-Cookman, 4-0.

Podium Finishes. The track and field team placed seven athletes on the podium at the Big 12 Indoor Championships. Rayniah Jones earned silver in the 60m hurdles. Overall, UCF got 21 points over five events.
